Stepping on the Serpent: The Journey of Trust with Mary

The prayer, "Jesus, I Trust in You" is a whole program of life - in fact, it's a journey. But we rejoice, because Mary has already walked along this journey of trust, and she walks it again with us! Life is a continual choice between two paths - trust and distrust. One cannot remain neutral. To choose the journey of trust means we have to step upon the serpent of distrust, because taking a step along this path requires crushing his head. But too often, we are unaware of our enemy, who desires to sow distrust in our hearts and lead us away from Jesus. To advance along our journey, we need to know our companion, Mary. And we need to know our enemy, Satan. "Jesus, I Trust in You" is the path of trust. And Mary teaches us how to trust in her Son in all our difficulties and trials. She also teaches us how to recognize the temptations of the serpent, to step upon him, and leave him in the dust.

Mary accompanies us along this journey, which is none other than the Way of the Cross, leading to the Resurrection and to Heaven. Saying the prayer, "Jesus, I Trust in You," is easy. Living this prayer, as Mary did, is not so easy. Often, we recite this prayer without knowing what it means nor how to live it in our everyday, ordinary lives. Mary learned though, and as a good Mother, teaches us how to trust and take a step along the path to life, and step upon the serpent who brings distrust and death.
